Mentes Ativas | Active Minds

Project being developed at the Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia Home

After having started in 2019 at Lar Santo André, the “Active Minds” project is now being developed at Lar Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia.

The “Active Minds” project began in July of 2019, with the application of cognitive and emotional assessment instruments to elderly people. Eight people are currently part of this project – aimed at people diagnosed with dementia or mild to moderate cognitive impairment – developed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Barcelos, through its Psychology Service. The main goal is “to promote the orientation of the reality of people with dementia or cognitive impairment”, as explained by Sofia Miranda, psychologist at the institution. To this end, several activities will be developed, such as “group stimulation sessions, workshops for employees, and reality orientation activities involving the environment (orientation signage) done by these employees.
